OSAP Assistance for Students on Exchange Information

If you will be studying on a University of Windsor International Exchange Program AND you will be applying for OSAP assistance, you will need the following information:

Your OSAP Assistance for Students on Exchange Form must reach the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office at least 6 weeks prior to the start of your studies abroad.

When you are applying on-line for OSAP select the University of Windsor as your post-secondary institution and "Exchange Student" as your program.  This is an identifier to our office that your intention is to participate in an International Exchange Program.

You must also submit the following information to our office:

  1. OSAP Assistance for Students on Exchange Form (see form above) must be complete by both you and the Student Exchange Office.
  2. A copy of your confirmation/approval letter from the institution that you will be attending must be attached.  The letter must specify your study period START DATE and END DATE (your end date should allow for your exam schedule, not just the last day of classes.

Continuation of Interest Free Status:
If you have received OSAP funding in past semesters, but do not require OSAP funding while you are on exchange, you will want to put your loans into Interest Free Status.
You will have to complete the following:

  • A Continuation of Interest Free Status online application (found on the OSAP website)
  • Submit a copy of your OSAP ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS ON EXCHANGE FORM (see form above) to the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office along with a copy of your confirmation/approval letter from the institution which specifies your study period start andend date.

You must take 60% of a full course load (40% for students with permanent disabilities) in order to be eligible for both OSAP funding and interest-free status. If you withdraw or drop below 60% of a full course load (below 40% for students with permanent disabilities) at any time, you WILL be reassessed and risk the chance of being overpaid in OSAP assistance. An overpayment can affect your future eligibility for OSAP assistance if it is not repaid.

All OSAP recipients must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to continue to be eligible for OSAP funding. Satisfactory Academic Progress is defined as successful completion of at least 60% of a full course load towards a specific degree or certificate. AUDIT courses are NOT eligible for OSAP.

It is your responsibility to inform the Student Awards & Financial Aid Office, in writing, of any changes in your academic, financial or marital status.
