With multi-factor authentication (MFA) being enabled today on all faculty, sessional instructor, post-doctoral fellow, and adjunct professor UWin Accounts, the IT Service Desk is extending its hours.

The desk will open March 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Please contact the IT Service Desk if you need help setting up your multi-factor authentication options or have questions about how MFA works,” says Marcin Pulcer, assistant director, client services, IT Services.

The IT Service Desk can be reached by phone at 519-253-3000, ext. 4440, or in-person in the lower level of the University Computer Centre. You can also ask a question or open a UWin Account ticket.

The full rollout of multi-factor authentication (MFA) at UWindsor has begun.

MFA was enabled Thursday on all staff, student employee, non-university personnel, and guest UWin Accounts.

The rollout will continue throughout March as follows:

  • Tuesday, March 3: all faculty members, sessional Instructors, post-doctoral fellows, and adjunct professors
  • Weeks of March 9, 16, and 23: all undergraduate students
  • Week of March 30: all graduate students

Email notifications are sent to UWin Account holders prior to MFA being enabled on their accounts. Information Technology Services strongly encourages individuals to set up their MFA options now, however, rather than waiting and possibly forgetting.

“Setting up your MFA options before MFA is enabled on your account is easier,” says Marcin Pulcer, assistant director, client services, IT Services. “While it is possible to set up after enablement, it is harder to do and more frustrating because it interrupts the task you want to complete.”

To set up your MFA options:

  1. Navigate to myprofile.microsoft.com in a web browser and sign in with your UWinID@uwindsor.ca and UWin Account password.
  2. In the Security info box, click the UPDATE INFO link.
  3. Click the + Add method button to add an authentication method.

Authentication methods include Phone – Text me a code, Phone – Call me, Microsoft Authenticator App, and the recently added MFA token. For more information about authentication methods, see www.uwindsor.ca/itservices/mfa-options.

An upgrade to the underlying human resource database will take myUWinfo, UWindsor’s gateway to human resource information, offline on Saturday, Feb. 29.

“We wanted to flag this outage in case any faculty or staff members were planning to do their 2019 taxes on Saturday,” says Susan Holiga, assistant director of Information Technology Services. “If so, you will want to log into myUWinfo beforehand to get a copy of your T4 or T4A tax forms from the University.”

On Saturday, any updates about the maintenance period will be posted on the IT Services’ system status webpage at www.uwindsor.ca/itservices/status. The myUWinfo system will be back in operation Sunday, March 1.
