Student Chamber Showcase promises musical variety

The Student Chamber Showcase, Sunday, March 11, at Assumption University Chapel, is an opportunity for students performing in smaller musical groups to step into the spotlight.

The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. and promises great variety in its performances by voice majors, percussionists, string players and trombonists:

Trifecta Trio offers UWindsor community free concert Friday evening

The Trifecta Trio, a trio of musicians on the faculty of East Tennessee State University, will play a classical concert free and open to the public in the Music Building’s Recital Hall on Friday, March 9, at 7 p.m.

The trio -- Aryn Day Sweeney, oboe; Jeffrey Whaley, horn and Chih Long Hu, piano – will perform 20th century works of York Bowen and Jan Koetsier as well as new pieces by Greg Danner and Maria Niederberger.

Classical piano works on program for solo recital

Windsor native Darrett Zusko, an internationally-respected pianist, will appear in the Music Building’s Recital Hall for an intimate performance of works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m.

A graduate of the Juilliard School, Zusko is fast becoming one of Canada’s most sought-after soloists. He has been invited to perform with a number of North America’s leading symphonic ensembles including the orchestras of Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Cincinnati, Louisiana, Niagara, London and Windsor.

Children’s concerts boast UWindsor connection

A UWindsor music student and a recent grad are among the featured performers for a series of educational concerts by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.

The 20 concerts will bring the full orchestra to churches, schools and concert halls throughout Windsor-Essex for programs aimed at elementary school students.

Lecture to explore music writing

Music instructor Sean Kim will discuss the compositional process in producing his works Piano Quintet No.2 and An Aftermath in a presentation today – Wednesday, February 15 – in the Music Building’s Recital Hall.

Contest winner headed to faculty concert

Sylvia Verhaegen-Tingle, a computing consultant in Information Technology Services, laboratory safety coordinator in the Chemical Control Centre, won yesterday’s DailyNews contest and two tickets to the faculty concert “Chamber Ensembles and Electronics,” Saturday, February 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Assumption University Chapel.
