Jazz guitarist to strum his stuff

Guitarist Vaughn Klugh heads up a small combo for a recital today — Monday, January 23 — at 4 p.m. in the Music Building’s Recital Hall.

A sessional instructor in the School of Music, Klugh teaches guitar and arranging. His recordings include the albums Two for the Road, Wendel Harrison & Vaughn Klugh Duo, and his most recent, Choose Love.

He is also the author of “THAT: the Theory, Harmony, Arranging Techniques” teaching system.

Soprano’s voice rings out to claim music scholarship

Fourth-year music therapy student Christina Bell took top honours and the $500 award Sunday at the Ron W. Ianni Memorial Scholarship in Performance competition.

Bell, a soprano, studies voice in the studio of professor Elsie Inselman. In Sunday’s competition, she sang Meine Ruh’ ist hin by Richard Wagner, one of his compositions on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust.

Contest winner to take in music student scholarship competition

Education student Kerry Bryan won yesterday’s DailyNews contest and two tickets to the Ianni Performance Scholarship Competition, Sunday, January 15, in Assumption University Chapel at 2:30 p.m.

The concert features student musicians competing for a $500 scholarships named in honour of the late University of Windsor president.

Bryan’s name was drawn from all respondents who correctly translated Meine Ruh’ ist hin as “My peace is gone,” identified “presto” as a very fast tempo, and set Bizet’s opera Carmen in Spain.

Trivia contest offers tickets to music student showcase

Concerts to showcase student soloists

Top music students will take to the stage to compete for a $500 award on Sunday, January 15, in Assumption University Chapel at 2:30 p.m.

Student musicians representing each instrument group were invited to compete for the Ron W. Ianni Memorial Scholarship in Performance by receiving the highest grades in the December performance juries. The award is open only to full-time students enrolled in a music degree. It was established by Mina Grossman-Ianni and the School of Music in 2005 to honour the late president of the University of Windsor.

Festival of Christmas a choral tradition

It has been a Windsor tradition since 1976, and the Festival of Christmas choral concert is guaranteed to get you into the holiday spirit.

The University of Windsor School of Music presents the event on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. at Assumption Church, featuring the glorious voices of the University Singers and the Chamber Choir, accompanied by pianist Alde Calongcagong, harpist Deborah Gabrion, and organist David Palmer.
