What is the Bringing in the Bystander® Workshop?
The Bringing in the Bystander® workshop is a workshop that will give you the skills to intervene and prevent sexual violence from happening. During the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 semesters our prevention programming will be a 2.5hr online workshop.
Our goal is to train 10-15% of the student body each year through prevention programming that reflects the diversity on our campus. Acting together, these students will constitute the “tipping point” needed to change campus attitudes and behaviours.
The Bringing in the Bystander® workshops are open to all genders. View our Community Support Resources list.

What Will I Learn?
How to discuss gender-based violence through an intersectional lens
How to identify situations that commonly lead to sexual assault
What to do to help a friend or stranger in need
These tools can make a difference if practised widely and consistently.
Program highlights include:
- Workshops facilitated in a highly interactive and respectful and supportive virtual learning environment
- Students of all genders working together to address and prevent sexual violence
- Research-driven and sex-positive programming
- An intersectional, trauma-informed, and survivor-centred approach to sexual violence
- Building bystander intervention skills that are highly generalizable to other forms of harm (i.e., Anti-Black racism, transphobia, homophobia).
How Do I Register for a Workshop?
All students are welcome to take our workshop and can sign up using MySuccess. You may be able to take the workshop for bonus points if this option is offered by your course instructor.
If you would like a step-by-step tutorial on how to sign up for a website, follow along with Jessica in this Tik Tok video.
What Will I Receive?
You will receive a certificate of completion for attending and are encouraged to list this training on your resume and your professional portfolio.
We have received feedback from students and employers alike that a certificate for the Bringing in the Bystander® workshop is in demand!
Our trained students stand out in interviews and on grad school applications because of the value of understanding the nuances of gender-based violence in academic and professional settings.

Peter's Experience
Bystander in the Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law is pleased to partner with the University of Windsor’s Bystander Initiative (BI) to provide sexual violence prevention training for ALL 1L students!
The Bystander Initiative engages law students as vital stakeholders in the prevention of sexual violence, equipping them with the skills to identify and safely intervene in a range of harmful situations.
This workshop is led by law students, for law students.
Participants will recceive a Certificate of Completion. In the last few years, law firms have specifically scouted students who have completed our program as they recognize the value in articling students and potential partners who can prove these essential skills in the field!
You can sign up using MySuccess. Make sure that you select the BI Law workshop.
