When No Improvement Has Been Made

What can leaders do if no improvement has been made?

Before pursuing a formal approach, leaders should engage in self-reflection, asking:

  • Have expectations been clearly communicated?
  • Has an informal feedback meeting occurred?
  • What support actions were identified and provided?
  • Has progress been monitored and feedback given?
  • Have actions taken been documented?
  • Are there any underlying issues (e.g., health, personal) impacting the ability of the employee to meet expectations that may require an accommodation? (consult HR)

Leaders shuold then contact Human Resources to discuss a more formal approach. Prepare for this meeting by gathering:

  • Facts of the situation (specific unmet expectations).
  • Record of informal meetings.
  • Details of support actions taken.
  • Any other relevant information.

HR will guide leaders through the formal process, which typically aligns with the discipline articles of the relevant Collective Agreement.
