Pasta bar to dress up macaroni and cheese all week

The Marche pasta station in the CAW Student Centre’s Marketplace will feature a macaroni and cheese bar this week, offering a variety of dishes made fresh to order.

The selection includes:

  • Classic mac
  • Buffalo chicken mac
  • Extreme veggie mac
  • Green mean pesto mac
  • Cajun shrimp mac

With prices ranging from $5.99 to $7.49, diners can afford to try a few!

Crocodile Grill open through Study Week

The Crocodile Grill in Vanier Hall and the Tim Hortons kiosk in the CAW Student Centre will be open to serve the campus clientele during Study Week, reports Food Services.

Patrons can satisfy their caffeine urges at the Tim Hortons outlet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday. It will serve its usual combination of beverages and baked goods.

The Crocodile Grill, on the ground floor of Vanier Hall, will open every day this week.

Marketplace fare a way to say “Be Mine”

Dinner in the Marketplace food court Thursday will give diners a chance to say “Be Mine” to the objects of their affections.

Marketplace menu going multicultural in celebration of nations

The Marketplace food court in the CAW Student Centre will serve a multicultural menu this week, February 11 to 14, in observance of the Celebration of Nations.

Monday’s lunch is Mexican, featuring chorizo-stuffed mushroom caps, taquitos with marinated chicken and honey chipotle sauce, vegetarian quesadillas with guacamole, and pescado with lime pico de gallo.

Dinner Monday is Chinese and will offer pepper steak, chicken chow mein, a vegetarian stir-fry, and sweet and sour chicken.

Subcontinental cuisine to grace cafeteria Tuesday

The Homestyle station in the Marketplace food court will feature the flavours of India today—Tuesday, January 22—with lunch and dinner entrees drawing from cuisine of the subcontinent.

The lunch menu includes:

  • baked samosas with tamarind sweet chilli sauce;
  • butter chicken;
  • chana cauliflower masala;
  • vegetarian biryani;

Love of gardening can bring campus closer to community

The University’s campus community garden project is a way to close a gap between the campus community and the surrounding neighbourhoods, says its founder.

Rita Haase, a sessional instructor in women’s studies, helped to get the garden—located on California Avenue behind the education building— running in the spring of 2010. She said its 200 volunteers encompass UWindsor students and employees as well as about 30 members of the broader community.

“If we share the food and love of gardening, it can bring people together,” she says.

Marketplace menu to celebrate Hanukkah

The Marketplace food court in the CAW Student Centre will serve a Jewish-themed dinner on Thursday in celebration of Hanukkah. The eight-day festival of lights began December 8.

The dinner runs 4 to 7 p.m. and will feature:

  • matzo ball soup;
  • Israeli salad;
  • fried chicken cutlets;
  • pot roast;

each served with a slice of challah bread and a choice of potato latkes or roasted root vegetables. Also on offer are the jelly-filled doughnuts, sufganiyot.

Lancers step up to the plate to encourage healthy eating

What’s blue and gold and encourages UWindsor students to eat healthy during exams? Lancer varsity athletes!

When nutritionist Chris Wellington wanted to promote healthy diet choices on video screens at Food Services outlets across campus, she knew just where to turn.

“What sends a better message about eating right than images of our Lancers?” she asked. “They are the embodiment of the healthy balance we hope all our students will strive for.”

Food Services announces extended hours for exam period

Food Services will extend its hours of service at many of its campus outlets during the exam crunch, says department head Dave McEwen.

“At this important time of year, we recognize the need to be as flexible as we can,” he says. “We are proud to be able to provide more service to the students—maybe it can help to reduce the end-of-semester stress.”
