Jessica RaffoulJessica Raffoul, Director/Learning Specialist

Jessica Raffoul joined the CTL in 2007, where she now is the director and a Teaching and Learning Specialist. She contributes to and enhances research, programs, and curricula that support teaching and student learning, with a particular focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning, educational leadership, reflective practice, the documentation of instructional excellence, and knowledge mobilization. She has participated in the organization of multiple national and international conferences, supported the launch of a national teaching and learning journal, coordinated programs, developed teaching and learning resources, disseminated research, and taught workshops and courses. She holds degrees and certificates in English literature, creative writing, philosophy, and higher education.

Timothy Au-YeungTimothy Au-Yeung, Online Learning Systems Administrator
Tim Au-Yeung is the Online Learning Systems Administrator for the University of Windsor. He is responsible for the administration and configuration of the Brightspace system used at the University of Windsor. He holds a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Windsor. He is also a licensed teacher in the province of Ontario.

Natalie BeltranoNatalie Beltrano, Learning Specialist
Hello! My name is Natalie Beltrano. I am a PhD Candidate in the School of Social Work and a proud graduate of the University Teaching Certificate from the CTL. My research is focused on child welfare worker decision-making in Canada; however, my first passion has always been teaching. I have had the opportunity to teach in both the on- and off-campus Master of Social Work programs at the University. I have also taught at the University of Calgary, St. Clair, and Durham College. I am dedicated to lifelong learning and am currently exploring critical pedagogical approaches to promote anti-racism in higher education.

Pierre BoulosDr. Pierre Boulos, Learning Specialist
Pierre joined the CTL in 2008 as a Learning Specialist and coordinator of the University Teaching Certificate. He also holds the position of Special Advisor, Internationalization and Education in the UWindsor Research Ethics Board. He is also a faculty member in the Argumentation Studies PhD Program. Pierre is the President of the International History, Philosophy, and Science Teaching group. His disciplinary research is in argumentation, logic, and philosophy of science. Pierre has published in the scholarship of teaching and learning, research ethics, history and philosophy of science, and argumentation studies.

Jaimie KechegoJaimie Kechego, Learning Specialist, Indigenization
Jaimie Kechego is Anishnaabwekwe from Deshkaan Ziibing (the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation reserve) located near London, Ontario. Jaimie’s academic experience began at the University of Windsor as she pursued her Bachelor of Arts degree. Her professional experience with the University of Windsor began at Turtle Island as the Student Representative for the Aboriginal Education Committee. After graduating from the University of Windsor, she secured a position with the Greater Essex County District School Board as the First Nation, Metis and Inuit secondary school counsellor for eight years. Jaimie went back to the University of Windsor to pursue her Bachelor of Education in 2014 and graduated in 2015. Recently, Jaimie completed her requirements for a Master’s degree in the Field of Educational Leadership focused in Aboriginal Education at Western University.

Peter MarvalPeter Marval, Media Artist
Peter provides expertise in the area of multimedia in support of CTL programs, website design, and special events.  He has been doing graphic and web design for about 20 years.  He is a graduate of Print Journalism and Digital Media from Conestoga College, and Communication, Media and Film from the University of Windsor.  He is also a photographer, with most of his best work sitting on a hard drive somewhere.  He plays piano (poorly) and dabbles in music production and sound design.  He has also recently begun working with 3D and motion graphics.  He has a penchant for monkeys and cookies, especially for monkeys eating cookies.  A portion of his work can be seen at marvalmedia.com.

Michael PotterMichael K. Potter, Teaching and Learning Specialist
Michael K. Potter joined the University of Windsor’s Centre for Teaching and Learning in 2008, where he is now a Teaching and Learning Specialist. Since joining the CTL he has served as co-creator and coordinator of the University Teaching Certificate (UTC) Program (2009-2017), Chair of the Council of Ontario Educational Developers, Secretary and Vice-President of the Bertrand Russell Society, and in many other capacities for internal and external committees and organizations. Michael began working as an educational developer in 2001, while in graduate school for philosophy at McMaster University, eventually leaving to focus on educational development full-time. His teaching experience spans disciplines and age levels, from high school students to professors nearing retirement, always with an eye toward grounding his approach in interdisciplinary scholarship. Although his own scholarly endeavours now focus on storytelling and the use of nihilist, existentialist and pragmatist philosophy in university teaching, he has published a variety of academic and popular works, and is the author of Bertrand Russell’s Ethics (2006), co-author of Leading Effective Discussions (2008) and Learning Outcomes Assessment: A Practitioner’s Handbook (2015), and co-editor of a special issue of the Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning focused on the role of the arts and humanities in SoTL (2015). Outside of academia, Michael is a director, producer, actor and writer for the stage, Managing Director of Post Productions and co-owner of The Shadowbox Theatre.

Hannah SandsHannah Sands, Administrative Assistant/Coordinator
Hannah joined the University of Windsor in 2019, shortly after becoming a University of Windsor alumna in 2018 with a BA in International Relations and Development Studies. She has since worked with the Faculty of Engineering and now the Centre for Teaching and Learning in an administrative capacity. Hannah coordinates administrative services to support, promote, and sustain the efficient, timely, and effective operation of the Centre for Teaching and Learning. She provides administrative assistance, logistical and budgetary support to the CTL Director.

Erica Stevens AbbittDr. Erica Stevens Abbitt, Teaching and Learning Senior Fellow
Dr. Erica Stevens Abbitt is Professor Emerita in the School of Dramatic Art. From 2015-17, she also served FAHSS as director of the Humanities Research Group.

A native of Montreal, Erica earned a BA in political science from McGill before training as an actor. Her theatre career in Canada, the US, New Zealand and the UK included the BBC series OPPENHEIMER, stage roles in London and Off-Broadway and directing, writing and producing credits in regional theatre.

In 1999, she returned to her studies, receiving an MA in Theatre History from California State University, Northridge and a PhD in Critical Studies from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. Joining the University of Windsor in 2004, she focused on revitalizing the theatre studies curriculum to include contemporary thinking on race, nation, gender, power and identity, as well as performance.

Erica’s research interests in girl culture, pedagogy, politics and feminist performance are reflected in a series of journal articles, as well as The Theatre of Naomi Wallace (Palgrave 2014) which she co-edited with Scott T. Cummings. The proud recipient of awards from OHREA, FAHSS and OPUS for service on campus, she has also been honoured for contributions to the Women and Theatre Program for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. As a late career academic, she is passionate about mentorship, interdisciplinary exchange, the link between theory and practice, and the importance of liberal arts education in the 21st century.

Veronika MogyorodyDr. Veronika Mogyorody, Teaching and Learning Senior Fellow
Dr. Veronika Mogyorody is Professor Emeritus in the School of Creative Arts and founder of the interdisciplinary Visual Arts and the Built Environment [VABE] program with the School of Architecture, University of Detroit Mercy. As UofW's Academic Architectural Advisor, she was involved with the design of campus learning environments. Her engagement in reimagining university spaces/surroundings won her recognition from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, by being honored with a 3M National Teaching Fellowship and awarded the Brightspace Teaching and Learning Innovation Award. She currently is the inaugural Teaching and Learning Senior Fellow at the University's Centre for Teaching and Learning. Trained as an architect and urban designer, her research has focused on higher education learning spaces, sustainable design/ practices, and cultural districts/hubs. Dr. Mogyorody has been recognized by the Ontario Association of Architects “for outstanding contributions to the built environment and to the architectural profession” and has been a recipient of The American Institute of Architects Scholastic Award. She is dedicated to the heritage of modern architecture, and has been a member on the Windsor Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, Community Public Art Advisory Committee, Central Riverfront Technical Advisory Committee and the Urban Design Task Force for the City of Windsor. As the past President of the Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) and current Board member of WEA she is a strong promoter of arts and culture in downtown redevelopment.
