Scheduled on December 4, 2024, the #IAmSahraBulle Conference is a collaborative effort between the Sahra Bulle Foundation and the Office of the Vice-President of People, Equity, and Inclusion. This hybrid event is dedicated to fostering dialogue, education, and actionable steps against gender-based violence against women and girls, aligning with Canada’s 2024 theme for the 16-Days of Activism, "Come Together, Act Now" Through insightful sessions and engaging discussions, the conference aims to unite advocates, survivors, and change-makers to propel tangible steps in dismantling systemic barriers and promoting gender equality and respect. It's a pivotal moment to empower change and create a more equitable society for all.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Introduction and Greetings 


9:30 AM – 10:15 AM: 

Research Presentation: The Link Between GBV and Health Outcomes

Presenters: Tori Lewis, Kylie Pazner, Amilia Noftall, Kylee Madison, Ananya Sood, and Dr. Kendall Soucie

Focus: This research-driven presentation explores the concepts and relationships between GBV, trauma, and health-related impacts, providing foundational insights.


10:15 AM – 10:30 AM: Morning Break


10:30 AM – 11:15 AM: 

Presentation: The Health Impact of GBV on Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2S People

Presenter: McKenna (Kenna) Robb

Focus: Exploring the intersection of GBV and the health outcomes for Indigenous women, girls, and 2S individuals, emphasizing culture, history, and community.


11:15 AM – 12:00 PM: 

Student Presentations: Youth Perspectives on GBV and Its Health Impacts

Focus: Amplifying youth voices on how GBV affects their lives and communities.

Workshop #1: Teaching Toolkit for Addressing GBV

Facilitators: Dr. Catherine Vanner and Dr. Salsabel Almanssori

Audience: High School Students (In-Person Only)

Focus: Tailored specifically for high school students to recognize GBV and foster safe learning environments.

*Note: While Dr. Catherine Vanner and Dr. Salsabel Almanssori’s workshop is exclusively in-person for high school students, the rest of the conference will still remain hybrid, and will participate in Workshop #2. 


Workshop #2: Silence is Not Protection, It is Permission – The Role Silence Plays in the Pervasiveness of GBV

Facilitator: Fartumo Kusow

Audience: Open to All (Hybrid: In-Person and Virtual)

Focus: Exploring the role of silence in perpetuating GBV and fostering dialogue.

Survivor Story: Turning Pain into Purpose

Presenter: Cait Alexander

Focus: A personal journey of resilience, highlighting the transformative power of turning pain into purpose.


3:00 PM – 3:30 PM:

Breakout Groups with Takeaway Charts

Focus: Participants reflect on the day’s sessions and document key learnings and actions using takeaway charts.


3:30 PM – 3:45 PM: Question and Answer Period


3:45 PM: Closing Remarks
