The University of Windsor is committed to ensuring Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an integral part of all university business and activities. ERM is a continuous proactive activity designed to identify, analyze, mitigate, communicate, and monitor internal and external potential risks that may harm or threaten the priorities and strategic goals and objectives at the University of Windsor.
The ERM process includes five specific elements - strategy/objective setting, risk identification, risk assessment, risk response, and communication/monitoring. The process framework will support an effective approach to risk assessment to mitigate, avoid and manage risks in support of the University's priorities and strategic goals and objectives. Through an extensive Enterprise Risk Management review, key institutional risks have been identified and documented, with regular reporting to the University's Executive Leadership Team and Board of Governors.
The University's of Windsor has adopted an Enterprise Risk Management approach to:
- Identify and analyze potential risks that may significantly affect and threaten the University's ability to achieve its strategic goals and objectives
- Increase Enterprise Risk Management program awareness
- Engage with identified Risk Champions (risk leaders) to identify risks and communicate mitigation strategies for each risk identified
- Provide effective governance of the University
- Protect the University's brand and reputation
- Analyze and monitor potential risks that may affect and threaten the University's ability to maintain operations
- Ensure the continuity of operations and protect University assets
- Enhance the safety and security of student, staff and faculty at the University
- Assess risks and opportunities against the University's level of risk tolerance
