Pride Flag Raising

Monday, June 3, 2024 - 12:30

With June being recognized as Pride Month, the University of Windsor Pride Committee (UWinPride) invites the campus and Windsor-Essex community to join in a flag-raising ceremony on Monday June 3rd at 12:30pm on the north side of Alumni Field (near the entrance on College Ave). Organizers promise freezies and giveaways.

The ceremony has been relocated this year due to the student Liberation Zone in the courtyard between Chrysler Hall Tower and Dillon Hall. The committee respects the students’ purpose and right to assembly, recognizing that we must work together towards collective liberation of all oppressed and marginalized people.

“Pride offers an opportunity for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and allies to gather in the safety of community, in celebration of how far we have come, remembrance of all those who have fought to get us here, and to also address the ways in which our current society continues to fail us” says UWinPride co-chair Ashlyne O’Neil.

Committee member Jennifer Myer adds “members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have always challenged systemic oppression, often being positioned as leaders within other liberation movements. With that in mind, let us be thoughtful and intentional to ensure the University of Windsor is a place where all feel as though they belong.”

The ceremony will include two speeches, and will begin promptly at 12:30pm.
