We plan to develop one or more undergraduate student learning communities to further explore the international student learning experience at the University of Windsor with the goal of enhancing our understanding of how we can improve teaching of international students. The number of learning community groups will depend on the level of interest. We will try to limit participation to 8-10 students per learning community group to ensure a high-level of student engagement during the project. Learning communities would meet during the winter 2019 semester to plan and execute related research. Some work may continue into summer 2019. The full project would be completed by September 2019.
The project will:
- Increase student research skills and curiosity by participating in an academic year-long research project in which students will demonstrate responsibility for all phases of the research;
- Strengthen our research program by giving more student voice to our investigation of best practices for teaching internaitonal students;
- Recommend teaching and learning practices within the scope of the selected research topic; and
- Result in research dissemination by sponsoring related workshops, conference presentations, and publications.
