October 25, 2013 - Congratulations to recent graduate Katrina Baldwin (BScN '13) and instructor Virgina Walsh, whose article titled "An Essential Safe Practice: Independent Double Checks with High-Alert Medications" has been accepted for publication in Nursing 2013. Katrina worked on this paper as part of the Transition to Practice course (scholarly writing lab component), which was taught by Virginia Walsh.
October 7, 2013 - Congratulations to Leslie Skakun, a 3rd year Collaborative BScN student, who is a recipient of this year's ATHENA Scholarship, given through the Windsor Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. The ATHENA Scholarship Program was created in 1999 for full-time post-secondary students between the ages of 18 and 30 years old. As well as having excellent academic achievement, recipients must be interested in increasing leadership opportunities for women and enhancing the quality of life in our community. Leslie and two other recipients were recognized for their leadership excellence, academics and for demonstrating a community spirit that benefits people. They were honoured at the ATHENA Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday October 3, 2013 at the Caboto Club.

August 29, 2013 - Congratulations to Dr. Kathy Pfaff (Lecturer, Faculty of Nursing) who successfully defended her doctoral thesis, entitled, "Interprofessional collaboration and the new graduate nurse: A mixed methods exploration".
May 29, 2013 - The Graduate Diploma in Oncology/Palliative Nursing is featured in an article in the Spring 2013 Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) Provincial Oncology Nursing Newsletter. The newsletter will also be published on the CCO website.
The Faculty of Nursing participated in Science Rendezvous 2013, which took place on May 11, 2013. Nursing faculty members, staff, and students provided interactive and educational displays for the community.

May 22, 2013 - Congratulations to Professor Kathy Pfaff, whose presentation last week at the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences Research Plenary won an Excellence in Oral Presentation Award. Her presentation was titled: "A Mixed Methods Exploration of the Team and Organizational Factors that Predict New Graduate Nurse Engagement in Collaborative Practice."
May 16, 2013 - The annual Nursing Celebration of Research and Scholarship event recognized the achievements of Nursing faculty, students and community partners.
The 2013 Faculty of Nursing Research Award was awarded to Dr. Susan Fox-Wasylyshyn. This award is given based on a formal nomination by a colleague and support letters from three referees.
Graduate student (MSc) Anne Foote was recognized for receiving a research grant (the CPI/Rolling Stones Fund for the Advancement of Professional Practice in Infection Control) from the Registered Nurses’ Foundation of Ontario. She has also was the recipient of the A.R. and E. G. Ferriss Graduate Endowment Award and the Dr. Steve Radin VON Graduate Award.
Two individuals from community partners were also recognized for their contributions to research in our region - Irene Carson from Windsor Regional Hospital and Professor Katharine Hungerford from Lambton College.
May 7, 2013 - Congratulations to Padma Ravi, a first year Collaborative BScN student and a Faculty of Nursing Patient Safety Champion, who has been chosen to attend the 4th Annual IHI Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, on June 13-14, 2013 in Cambridge, MA. The Student Quality Leadership Academy is a free, two-day program for students and residents designed to build the leadership competencies within all health professions. Participants will learn specific skills related to leading change, managing conflict, communicating effectively, and tackling other leadership challenges they currently face, or will face in their careers. Feedback on Padmin's application stated: "your enthusiasm and interest in leadership made you a stand-out candidate".
