Message from Dr Linda Patrick, Dean, Faculty of Nursing:
I am pleased to announce the following recent achievements in the Faculty of Nursing:
1) CASN Accreditation update:
I reported last year that we had received a 7 year CASN accreditation term for the Collaborative BScN program with the Colleges and a 7 year accreditation term for the Post Diploma program. The educational unit report for the University of Windsor site was given a 5-year accreditation term decision with an interim report that was submitted on April 1, 2012. Based on this submitted interim report, I am pleased to inform you that we have now also been given a 7 year accreditation term for the educational unit report for the University of Windsor!
"Accordingly, the CASN Accreditation Bureau is pleased to accept the interim report and commends the School on its good work..."
This means that our next CASN accreditation site visit will be 7 years from the last site visit in 2010 (the maximum decision allowed by CASN and the College of Nurses of Ontario). The 7 year decision for all of our programs and educational unit confirms that our curriculum, graduates and scholarship at the University of Windsor are meeting expectations according to CASN definitions.
2) Approval of Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice Oncology/Palliative Nursing:
The Council on Quality Assurance approved us to commence our proposed Graduate Diploma program in Advanced Practice Oncology/Palliative Nursing at the University of Windsor. We can now start to advertise this program and accept applications for a January 2013 first intake.
