Dean Linda Patrick co-author of new Nursing textbook

June 16, 2014 - Congratulations to Dean Linda Patrick, who, along with co-authors David Gregory, Christy Raymond-Seniuk and Tracey Stephen, have had their textbook titled "Fundamentals: Perspectives on the Art and Science of Canadian Nursing" published by Wolters Kluwer Health (2015 edition). Other UWindsor Nursing faculty who contributed to this textbook included Judy Bornais, Kathryn Edmunds, Michelle Freeman, Sarah Lopez, Amanda McEwen, Debbie Rickeard, Kathryn Rousseau, and Christine Wellington.

BScN students Hannah Sweilem and Padma Ravi selected to attend IHI Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy

June 13, 2014 - Congratulations to third year BScN student Hannah Sweilem, a Patient Safety Champion, who has been accepted to attend the IHI Open School Student Quality Leadership Academy in Cambridge, MA. This is the 5th Annual Student Quality Leadership Academy, which is a free, two-day interdisciplinary program for students, residents, and graduate trainees designed to build leadership competencies within future health professionals. This is a competitive process and students are required to submit an application.

Lucia Yiu recipient of 2014 Community Health Nurses of Canada Award of Merit

June 5, 2014 - Congratulations to Associate Professor Lucia Yiu for being selected to receive the 2014 Community Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC) Award of Merit, which was formerly announced at the CHNC conference held in Ottawa from June 2-4, 2014. This award is given annually to one outstanding nurse for his/her exemplary, visionary contribution to community health nursing. Eligible award candidates are nominated by a current CHNC member, with a minimum of one supporter.

Maher El-Masri receives Kidney Foundation of Canada grant

May 27, 2014 - Congratulations to Nursing Research Chair Maher El-Masri, who has received an Allied Health Research Grant from The Kidney Foundation of Canada. This two year, $92,000 grant, has been given for a study titled: "A randomized double-blind controlled study to compare the effectiveness of 1.0 versus 2.0 mg Alteplase (tPA) dosing in restoring hemodialysis catheter function." Maher is conducting this research study with Drs. Albert Kadri and Wasim El-Nekidy from Windsor Regional Hospital's nephrology and pharmacy departments.

Donation will enhance Marilyn and Sandy Wilson Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund

May 23, 2014 - On May 21, 2014, Dave Wilson met with President Alan Wildeman and Dean Linda Patrick to present a $20,000 cheque from his brother Sandy's estate to enhance the Marilyn and Sandy Wilson Nursing Scholarship endowment fund. This scholarship is awarded to two students registered full-time in the Faculty of Nursing entering Year 3 and Year 4 in the upcoming Fall semester. It is given based on good academic performance (minimum cumulative average of 75%), and proven financial need.

Nursing student Regina Yuen recipient of Mayor's Youth Leadership Award

May 20, 2014 - Congratulations to BScN student Regina Yuen, who is one of the recipients of the Mayor's Youth Leadership Award. This award recognizes young Windsorites dedicated to community involvement, volunteerism and civic engagement. Regina, who just completed year 1 in the nursing program, was recognized for her volunteer work with campus and community organizations.

Faculty of Nursing mourns the loss of BScN student Jessica Girard

May 17, 2014 - The Faculty of Nursing is mourning the loss of BScN student Jessica Girard, who passed away on May 15, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jessica was the 2013/14 Nursing Society President, and was well known and well liked by nursing students, faculty and staff, as well as in the University of Windsor community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jessica's family, friends and fellow classmates. Prior to her illness, Jessica was to have graduated with this year's BScN Class of 2014.
