Margaret and Joseph Takacs Memorial Award in Labour Studies

  • Overview: Two awards are granted annually to students in any year of study in the Women’s and Gender Studies program who have the highest grade in the Everyday Disputes and Their Resolution Course or a course in a workplace and/or social justice focus.
  • History: Established in 2003 by Margo Marshall to honor the memory of her parents, Margaret and Joseph Takacs.

Women's and Gender Studies Entrance Scholarships

  • Women's and Gender Studies Year 1:

    • Eligibility: Awarded to a first-year student entering the Women's and Gender Studies Program or a combined program with Women's and Gender Studies.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest incoming average will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.
  • Women's and Gender Studies Year 1 Black-identified Student Scholarship:

    • Eligibility: Awarded to Black-identified first-year incoming students entering the Women's and Gender Studies Program or a combined program with Women's and Gender Studies.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest incoming average will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.
  • Women's and Gender Studies/BSW Year 1:

    • Eligibility: Awarded to a first-year student entering the BSW in Social Work and Women’s Studies program.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest incoming average will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.
  • Dr. Anne P. Forrest Award in Women's and Gender Studies/BCOMM Year 1:

    • Overview: Established to honor the career of Dr. Anne P. Forrest, an associate professor in the Odette School of Business and a long-serving Director of Women’s and Gender Studies.
    • Eligibility: Awarded to a high-achieving first-year student entering the Combined Honours Business Administration and Women’s and Gender Studies program.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest incoming average will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.

Women's and Gender Studies In-Program Scholarships

  • Women's and Gender Studies Year 2:

    • Eligibility: Awarded to a second-year student entering the Women's and Gender Studies Program or a combined program with Women's and Gender Studies.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest average and documented financial need will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.
  • Women's and Gender Studies/BSW Year 2:

    • Eligibility: Awarded to a second-year student entering the BSW in Social Work and Women’s Studies program.
    • Award Details: The student with the highest average and documented financial need will receive the award. 1 award every fall term.

Women’s and Gender Studies Paper Prize

  • Overview: A $75 gift certificate awarded for exceptional papers written for a Women’s and Gender Studies course.
  • Submission Details: Submissions can be made by the author or course instructor (with the author’s permission). Papers must have been written in 2023.
  • Deadline: March 8, 2024.
  • Recent Winners:
    • 2024: Alli Slavik with "Using Feminist Research Methodologies to Analyze Workplace Sexual Harassment and Violence in Windsor, Ontario, Canada".
    • 2023: Rija Fatima and Emily G. Newman.
    • Honourable Mentions: Kelly Dykhorst, Ayah Saleh, and Alli Slavik.

Women’s and Gender Studies Voice Prize

  • Overview: A $75 gift certificate awarded for creative works by Women's and Gender Studies students.
  • Submission Details: Includes text, video, audio, or other creative works completed in 2023.
  • Deadline: March 8, 2024.
  • Recent Winners:
    • 2024: Jessica Duval with "Anger Manifesto: Victim Blaming and the Men that Get Away with Assault".
    • 2023: Deslyn Tracey.
    • 2022: Jessica Akintomide and Andrea Gatie.

Women’s and Gender Studies Distinguished Alumni Award

  • Overview: A $100 gift certificate awarded annually to a graduate of any Women's and Gender Studies degree or certificate program who has actively contributed to the feminist community post-graduation.
  • Award Details: Recipients receive a $100 gift card and a $50 honorarium for presenting a 30-minute talk in the course Women in Canadian Society.
  • Deadline: March 8, 2024.

Outstanding Scholars Award

  • Overview: Automatically considered for the Outstanding Scholars program upon application to the University of Windsor.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must achieve an excellent final high school GPA, register full-time in an Honours program, and demonstrate active participation in volunteer and extra-curricular activities.
  • Academic Appointment Requirements: To qualify for second-year, candidates must achieve a minimum overall GPA of 80%.

Board of Governors Medal for Graduating Students

  • Overview: Awarded to the student with the highest cumulative average graduating from a Women’s & Gender Studies degree program.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must be graduating from a four-year Honours program with at least 83% cumulative and major averages, and have completed at least two years at the University of Windsor.
  • Recent Recipients:
    • 2023: Desly Tracey.
    • 2021: Olivia Greenhow.
    • 2020: Kayla Fiala.

FAHSS Lead Medallion Scholars

  • Overview: Recognizes students excelling in Leadership, Engagement, Application, and Discovery within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
  • Eligibility: Students must demonstrate leadership through peer mentoring, engagement through service learning or study abroad, application through internships, and discovery through undergraduate research.
  • Recent Winner: 2021: Andrea Gatie.

Athena Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $3,000
  • Overview: For full-time post-secondary students aged 18-30 who demonstrate leadership opportunities for women and community enhancement. Supported by donations from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
  • Past Winners:
    • 2019: Jessica Glazewski.
    • 2018: Erin Dufour and Sydney Chapados.

University of Windsor Returning Part-time Mature Student Award

  • Overview: One-time need-based tuition assistance for returning part-time undergraduate students who have been absent from school for at least one year.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents residing in Ontario, taking less than 60% of a full course load, and demonstrate financial hardship.
  • Deadline: August 15 (Fall term), December 15 (Winter term).
