Liberal Arts & Professional Studies

Liberal Arts & Professional Studies combines the knowledge and skills of a traditional liberal arts education with preparation for today’s labour market.

Graduates of this program are informed citizens and knowledgeable professionals equipped to participate in the complex personal, public, and workplace issues of the 21st century.

Degrees that couple theory with application are growing in popularity. Graduates are prepared to analyze personal or work-related issues, evaluate alternative courses of action, and implement effective solutions. These skills are the stepping-stones to careers in a wide range of social service, business, or government organizations.
 
LAPS is a good choice for students who have wide-ranging academic interests, yet look for career-related education. The broad range of courses available to LAPS majors make it more flexible than other degrees. It can be tailored to students’ particular interests.
 
LAPS majors in the three-year program select one certificate and two minors. Students in the four-year program, select one certificate and three minors. Certificates are 8-10 courses in a field of study.

  • Certificate in Applied Information Technology, see p. 586.
  • Certificate in Arts Management, see p. 56.
  • Certificate in Law and Politics, see p. 182.
  • Certificate in Public Administration, see p. 182.
  • Certificate in Organizational Management, see p. 353.
  • Certificate in Second Language Education, see p.137.
  • Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, see p. 296.
  • Certificate in Work and Employment Issues, see p. 66.
In addition, students choose from a wide range of Minors, which are 6 courses in a field of study. The possibilities are many and include:
  • Social Science – psychology, history, sexuality, or women’s and gender studies
  • Arts and humanities – English, philosophy, or modern languages
  • Natural sciences – biology, chemistry, or environmental science
  • Business – business administration or entrepreneurship

Moving to LAPS from Another Program

If you are a UWindsor student who has decided to transfer into Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, you must follow the degree requirements as of FALL 2020 in the academic calendar.

Contact your academic advisor to see if transferring to LAPS works for you.
