Writing Support Desk

The Writing Support Desk (WSD) is a service of the Student Success and Leadership Centre that helps students from all areas of campus with several aspects of academic writing, including:

  • Interpreting assignment prompts.
  • Constructing strong theses and arguments.
  • Solving grammar, punctuation, and syntax problems.
  • Analyzing and integrating sources.
  • Citing and referencing.
  • Developing active reading habits.

Is the WSD an editing service?

No. Please note that the WSD is not a proofreading service. Though WSD personnel will examine as much of a sample of writing as they can in the space of a one-on-one consultation, the service’s goal is to teach students how to improve their writing—not to simply edit their work. For more information, please read through the WSD's Policies and Procedures.

How can my students make an appointment for a one-on-one consultation?

While walk-in appointments are welcome, the WSD strongly recommends that students book an appointment at least one week in advance. The booking process is straightforward and administered through UWinsite Student. You can learn more about UWinsite Student at https://www.uwindsor.ca/registrar/uwinsite-student.

Does the WSD offer services beyond one-on-one consultation?

The Writing Support Desk conducts specialized workshops on a range of writing issues for UWindsor student groups. A current WSD Workshop Schedule is located on the WSD Website.

The Writing Support Desk is located on the first floor of the main Leddy Library building.

Note: This site is a living document, the goal of which is to improve, in some small way, the working lives of University of Windsor faculty. We are eager to collaborate with the campus community to better this service over time. If you can identify any knowledge gaps, missing resources, or outdated or erroneous information on this site, please contact Iva Gentcheva, Director, Office of the Provost and Faculty Recruitment, without hesitation.
