Cartoon computer screen reading "Take Survey"UWindsor staff, faculty, and students are sought for a survey intended to inform effective campus health messaging.

Researchers seeking participants for COVID-19 survey

A team of UWindsor health researchers is looking for volunteers to participate in a survey called Student, Faculty, and Staff Perceptions of On-campus COVID-19 Testing, Return to Campus, and Vaccination Hesitancy.

“The purpose of the survey is to gather insights from the University of Windsor student, faculty, and staff population to inform effective campus health messaging,” says lead researcher Kendall Soucie, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology.

“Another key objective is to determine common perceived barriers and facilitators to weekly COVID-19 screening procedures.”

The survey is a collaboration between WE-Spark Health Institute’s project “Students Igniting Vaccine Confidence Program in Windsor-Essex” and its COVID Screening Platform.

Dr. Soucie says the team aims to determine factors and barriers to getting vaccinated and critical demographics that will need to be targeted.

“Consideration of this data may highlight opportunities to increase voluntary participation in weekly COVID-19 screenings as students, faculty, and staff return to campus.”

All UWindsor staff, faculty, and students are eligible and may sign up for the survey here.

Participants will be entered into a draw for one of 30 $10 gift cards from the Campus Bookstore.

The survey is executed by Soucie with fellow investigators Lisa Porter and Dora Cavallo-Medved from biomedical sciences, Sarah Woodruff from kinesiology, and research assistants Jesse Scott and Jackie Fong. It has received clearance from the UWindsor Research Ethics Board.

Calendar of events created to keep students engaged, connected, and informed

With the University of Windsor planning for a return to face-to-face programming and on-campus activities in Fall 2021, the Office of Student Experience is reinstituting its Student Events Calendar for students to reference as they look to stay connected with their institution.

Sarah Hébert, student experience communications assistant, notes that the student experience goes beyond the classroom.

“The need for high-quality activities outside of the classroom should remain a priority,” she says.

Collaborating with other departments on campus, the online Students Events Calendar is housed on the Office of Student Experience website, highlighting events and activities available for UWindsor students, both virtual and in-person.

“Students are looking to engage with campus life, especially as we being to return to campus,” says Hébert. “Keeping our students informed is an important first step in keeping our students engaged.”

Staff and faculty are encouraged to share this events calendar with their students and encourage them to get involved. To add an event listing to the Student Events Calendar, fill out the online form.
