“O Come, O Come Emmanuel”- many of us have no doubt heard or sung this song countless times during the Advent season. The lyrics of this song evoke a sense of longing and anticipation- a sense of waiting for the promised Messiah to come. These lyrics, based on the O Antiphons, are part of the Church’s tradition, used in the Church’s worship as Christmas draws near.

As we approach the halfway mark of Advent, I find myself increasingly thinking of Mother Mary. As someone who was due to be born on Christmas Eve, not a year goes by where I don’t hear my Mom talk about how much she identified with Mary that Christmas as she waited for me to born.
This week marks both the feasts of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe, with a lot of music inspired by Mary. You can find the full Spotify playlist here, but here are a few of my favourites:

The whole world seems to be in full-blown Christmas mode! But come on, who doesn’t want the ultimate joyful-cheery season to take over the rest of this year? I personally have all my Christmas decorations up, seasonal coffees frequently, and Hallmark Christmas movies playing!

I never really understood the hype of podcasts until I found myself in this season of Covid. Sometimes my eyes would get tired from reading, and quite frankly, I’m not the biggest watcher of television shows.

When I was in University, I would go to class Monday-Thursday and then head to work at Canadian Tire on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Then after work on Sunday, I’d go over to the Church for Mass and to help with our high school ministry. It was busy during the week and on the weekend, but I did have a distinct difference between my week and my weekend.

We had so much fun preparing September Care Packages and we hope we can bless you with some fun and spiritual support as you prepare for finals and experience the season of Advent.
There are 2 ways to receive your package this time:

1. Carve a Pumpkin
Just because Halloween may be more low-key this year doesn’t mean that your neighbourhood doesn’t need some of your creativity to literally shine through. Find a stencil online or pick your own; let your imagination run wild!
2. Watch a Not-So-Scary Halloween Movie
Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown anyone? Even a visit from Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin will give you the seasonal feels without the nightmares.
