The Writing Support Desk (WSD) service helps students from all areas of campus with several aspects of academic writing, including:
- Interpreting assignment prompts.
- Constructing strong theses and arguments.
- Solving grammar, punctuation, and syntax problems.
- Analyzing and integrating sources.
- Citing and referencing.
- Developing active reading habits.
No. Please note that the WSD is not a proofreading service. Though WSD personnel will examine as much of a sample of writing as they can in the space of a one-on-one consultation, the service’s goal is to teach students how to improve their writing—not to simply edit their work. For more information, please read through the WSD's Policies and Procedures.
While walk-in appointments are welcome, the WSD strongly recommends that students book an appointment (through UWinsite Student) at least one week in advance. You can learn more about UWinsite Student at https://www.uwindsor.ca/registrar/uwinsite-student.
The Writing Support Desk conducts specialized workshops on a range of writing issues for UWindsor student groups. A current WSD Workshop Schedule is located on the WSD Website.
If you would like to request an in-class presentation for a class of students in your department, please complete the WSD In-Class Presentation/Event Request Form.
The Writing Support Desk is located on the first floor of the main Leddy Library building. For more information, phone Extension 3472 or email writingsupport@uwindsor.ca.
