How to Prevent the Flu
The flu (influenza) and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but are caused by different viruses. These viruses are spread from person to person by droplets from coughing or sneezing. Get to know the signs and symptoms of the flu and common cold and take precautions to prevent the spread of germs.
- Get the flu vaccine.
- Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds with soap and water.
- Cover your mouth and nose when cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth! These are areas where a virus can enter your body.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after interactions.
