Study groups are small and set in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Topics are highly varied, interesting and exciting. View our listing below and see what interests you.

  • Course fee: $45.00 for 5 week classes, $60 for 9 week classes payable at first class.

The following are the courses for Winter 2025:

  • Monday, September 15, 2025   
  • 12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.
  • 9 weeks
  • St. Augustine of Canterbury Church   5145 Wyandotte St. E.

This aims to be fun for all abilities. The activities can be modified to suit everyone. You can take a breather at any time. Our enthusiastic leader Anne McCallum will lead us through some very interesting experiences in “dance”. The class will begin each session with simple warm-up stretching exercises using a chair for support. Then we’ll work on the basic steps and patterns and dance to wonderful traditional music. Great exercise for the body and mind, uplifting and, as the dancers say, ‘so much fun!’ Come join us! No partner necessary. Bring comfortable shoes with soles that won’t stick to the floor.

Everyone is invited to participate in enjoying the Poetry of many Authors and to share in creating Poetry and Prose of their own. It’s not necessary to have a Poetry background to enjoy this rewarding experience. Ian Henderson and others will assist us as we work in a supportive atmosphere practising writing craft with creative activities.

Guest writers and poets are often invited to visit our classes and engage in sharing compositions.

We will begin by listening to a variety of music that is considered to be beautiful. This selections can be both secular and sacred, popular and classical.  Let’s look at an interpretation of the words that accompany this music.

After discussing, with Bruce Tucker, how we think Canada has changed since c1940, we’ll determine class interests in areas such as politics, culture, societal trends, international involvement, etc. Discussions from one class will lead us towards what we will focus upon in the remaining classes.

Presentations by Carol Winters and friends, will give you the opportunity to see and experience some interesting forms of Art. This may include painting, calligraphy and other things that bring out your imagination and creativity. The class size will be limited. Materials will be provided.

Over the years, people taking this class have had over 30 interesting, enriching experiences visiting places in our community. Led by George Plantus, our group has visited a factory, school, temple, police station, farm, museum and so many more places. Our next selections are still being made. This class is limited in size and you can register even before we choose our destinations.

Frank Perissinotti will lead us as we explore the history and works Frank Lloyd Wright. Known for his many structures, Frank Lloyd Wright was an architect, designer, writer and educator. He is known for his innovative approach to design. He believed his Prairie Style Homes united man, nature and architecture.

Let’s take a look, with Dave Garlick, at what happened on a particular date in history--like February 20th. Why do we remember it?  How did it affect lives?  How and why was it unique?  Lots of other questions related to that date could stimulate much conversation and new knowledge.  Then, we can select other dates and reflect on them together. This is sure to be a fun experience.

Participants in these sessions will experience, with Al Linnell, simple rhythms using drumming techniques and a variety of hand drums and Latin percussion hand instruments.  Techniques will be performed in a circular format – hence the name ‘drum circle’.  No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to enjoy the classes.

Here’s an opportunity to get involved with some light and interesting exercises. This aims to be enjoyable and the activities can be modified to suit everyone. It’s amazing what you get out of some simple movement exercises.

All you need is the desire to work on your body condition and improve your mind-body experience.  Instructor Norm Ross will introduce us to some fundamental skills and movements possibly including Tai Chi and/or Tae Kwon Do.  Members of the group will help determine what we choose to do.  Don’t miss this opportunity to improve your strength, balance and overall condition of mind and body.
