Purpose
Due to the decentralized structure of the University of Windsor (the “University"), most campus departments are primarily responsible for collecting, recording, and depositing funds as a result of various revenue transactions. In this environment, it is essential that strong internal controls are in place to ensure that funds are handled appropriately, funds are physically safeguarded, and transactions are accurately recorded in the financial system. In addition, internal control is vital in ensuring employees are protected from inappropriate charges of mishandling funds by defining their responsibilities in the process.

Purpose
This policy:
- ensures that informed decisions are made and a consistent approach is exercised as it pertains to the acceptance of gifts and that such gifts are receipted in accordance with the requirements of the Income Tax Act and Canada Revenue Agency Guidelines,
- ensures that efficient administrative, legal and accounting practices and procedures are followed,
- enables accurate reporting of gifts bestowed upon the University of Windsor (“the University”) and its affiliated organizations,
- ensures the management of gifts and donor information in compliance with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and
- ensures consistent and equitable donor relations.
The University is committed to managing fundraising activity in accordance with the highest standards of truth, integrity and professional ethics. The purpose of this policy to is to ensure gifts are acknowledged and processed properly and consistently throughout the University of Windsor (the “University”). The activities associated with stewardship are focused on ensuring that the funds provided by donors are utilized in the way intended, as conveyed in gift agreements and fund terms.
