Brandon Snel
On the Team: 2017-2020
Program: Primary Care Paramedic, Medical School
Brandon Snel began his tenure with UWSMRS in 2017 during his second year in the Biology/Biochemistry program. He served on the Executive Board as a Training Manager and in the following year became the Operations Manager. He is recognized for his outstanding commitment to UWSMRS, volunteering over 2000 hours during his tenure and receiving the "Beyond the Call of Duty" award at ACERT's 2020 NCCER conference. Brandon helped to develop a new Field Training Officer (FTO) training program, assisted with the 2020 referendum to increase our service's funding, and played a pivotal role in allowing us to operate 24/7. UWSMRS sparked Brandon's interset in emergency medicine, pushing him to persue a career as a Primary Care Paramedic. After becoming a Primary care Paramedic, Brandon worked for Dufferin Country Paramedic Services. Brandon is now beginning his medical degree at Central Michigan School of Medicine.
Daniel Salehi
On the Team: 2014 - 2019
Program: Medical School
Daniel Salehi joined UWSMRS in 2014 while completing his biochemistry degree. During his tenure, Daniel served on the Executive Board as the Training Manager for the 2017-2018 operational year and subsequently became the Program Coordinator in 2018-2019. During this time, Daniel committed many hours to the organization and worked hard to develop his emergency response skills. Outside of UWSMRS, Daniel worked as a First Aid instructor and also as a Medical Member for Border City EMS. In 2019, Daniel was accepted into Trinity School of Medicine and is now completing his medical degree there.
Jordon Charlebois
On the Team: Advisor, 2004 - 2015
Program: Medical School
Jordon Charlebois joined UWSMRS in 2004 while completing his biology degree.Jordon’s experience as a First Aid Instructor awarded him the executive position of training director, which held from 2006 – 2008. When Jordon left the University of Windsor to pursue his second degree in psychology and health sciences from Western University, he remained on the team as an advisor. Jordon’s passion for emergency medicine that he developed through his time with UWSMRS inspired his decision to apply to medical school. Jordon was accepted to Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2012. In his spare time, Jordon is a whiskey aficionado, enjoys working out in his home gym and playing video games on his homemade computer.
Holly Ferguson
On the Team: 2008 - 2015
Program: Registered Nurse
Holly Ferguson joined UWSMRS in 2008 while completing her degree in Social Work and Women’s Studies. It was during her first ever shift that she met her future husband, fellow alumni, Jordon Charlebois. They both reached for the same blood pressure cuff and locked eyes; the rest was history! Holly quickly moved up the ranks to crew chief and held an executive position as the public education director. Through her experience with UWSMRS, Holly realized just how much she loved health care and decided to abandon her Social Work degree to pursue a career nursing. Currently, she is attending the University of Windsor and will graduate from the nursing program in 2017 with the hopes of becoming a wound care nurse. When Holly is not saving lives, she fills her time with tea, bad reality TV, and anything related to Kate Middleton and the Royal Family.
Abigail Keaney
On the Team: 2009 - 2013
Program: Registered Nurse
Abigail was on UWERT/UWSMRS for 4.5 years. She is now working as a visiting nurse for Saint Elizabeth Health Care in Champlain. Abigail is mostly doing palliative care, but she also does wound care and other skills as well. She currently is also volunteering with her local youth group and in the summer she volunteers with Easter Seals Camps.
Samantha Leahy
On the Team: 2009 - 2015
Program: Primary Care Paramedic
Samantha was on UWERT/UWSMRS starting in 2009 while she was doing her degree in Behaviour, Cognition, and Neuroscience. She quickly moved up to Crew Chief and found a position on the executive as the Training Director. She loved nothing more than to teach and to create challenging scenarios which improved learning. Due to her experiences on UWERT/UWSMRS, she quickly realized that the pre-hospital environment was her calling! She finished her degree and continued on to St. Clair College and became a Primary Care Paramedic- in doing so she stayed with UWSMRS and became the Program Coordinator in 2014. After college she was quickly hired by Middlesex-London EMS as a PCP and attributes her success to the experience, knowledge, leadership, and guidance she found while on UWSMRS.
Jacob Gordner
On the Team: 2010 - 2013
Program: Medical School
Jacob Gordner joined UWSMRS in his first year and immediately made his mark on the team with his passionate, campus-wide campaigning in support the referendum of 2011, for which he became the youngest known member to ever be awarded ‘Responder of the Year’. Jacob eventually went on to become Personnel Director and a crew chief, following in the footsteps of his friend and mentor, fellow alumni Andrew Peltier. He left the team at the culmination his third year when he was accepted to Queen’s University Medical School. He is best known as the former roommate and rat caretaker of previous Program Coordinator Samantha Leahy, and for the many scratches and dents that adorned the team's old vehicle, the ‘pope-mobile’.
