Our History
- In 1857, Assumption College welcomed its first students. This small, liberal arts college was the original predecessor of the modern university.
- In 1963, it affiliated with Essex College, Canterbury College, Iona College, and Holy Redeemer College to incorporate as the University of Windsor, a non-denominational, autonomous degree-granting institution.
- In 2023, the University of Windsor celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Our Campus
- The University of Windsor is a safe, urban campus covering 51 hectares (125 acres) in Windsor, Ontario.
- The main campus takes up just a few city blocks, making it ideal for walking or biking.
- A new residence currently under construction on Sunset Avenue is slated to welcome students ahead of the Fall 2025 semester. It will hold 440 rooms, dining facilities, and other amenities.
- A downtown campus in heritage buildings in the city centre includes offices of the Centre for Executive and Professional Education and the School of Social Work in the former Windsor Star building, the School of Creative Arts in the former Armouries building and the Alan Wildeman Centre for Creative Arts, and the Master of Applied Computing program in the one-time home of the Palace Theatre.

Lancer Athletics
- The university fields 17 varsity teams that compete for provincial and national championships, as well as club and intramural opportunities.
- The Toldo Lancer Centre is a state-of-the-art sport and recreation facility that boats a 25-metre pool, triple gymnasium and indoor track, two-storey fitness centre, and four multi-purpose studios.
- Outdoor facilities include Alumni Stadium, which features a FIFA-approved artificial turf surface and seating for up to 10,000 spectators, and a cricket pitch.
