Lightboard

Looking to make a short, engaging video the combines media, gestures, and writing?

A lightboard video may be just what you need.  “The lightboard is a glass chalkboard pumped full of light…You face toward your viewers, and your writing glows in front of you” (http://lightboard.info).  Check out the example video below from the creator of the lightboard Michael Peshkin.

Using the lightboard allows instructors to rapidly create video content and see what the finished product will look like almost immediately. It is also a more engaging and natural way of creating video resources that are more of a conversation with the audience.

The lightboard allows instructors to easily create notes, annotated images, texts, video, and even GIFs that can be mixed into the video live in a similar way to how weather presenters on TV create the illusion of interaction with a digital object.

The Office of Open Learning has its own lightboard available for you to use in developing your own engaging educational video resources.  If you are interested in giving it a try, please contact us and take the lightboard challenge!!

Please note that our staff will need to book a studio and set up the equipment appropriately, so advance notice for creating lightboard videos is required.
