Clinical Learning Facilities Expansion

The Faculty of Nursing’s state-of-the-art, cutting-edge Clinical Learning Centre is a place where students learn advanced skills and engage in reality based scenarios using high fidelity mannequins and standardized patients.  The high fidelity mannequins talk, breath, have lung, heart and bowel sounds, and are physiologically modeled to respond to treatment and medication as would a real patient.

Due to increased enrolments and new program offerings, the Faculty of Nursing has outgrown its current Clinical Learning Centre facilities in the Toldo Health Education Centre, and acquired additional space to expand its facilities on the third floor of the adjacent Medical Education Building. These new facilities include the following:

  • A second Simulation Lab, with an adjacent viewing/control room for instructor evaluation and debriefing purposes (see photo below)
  • Two primary care rooms
  • An Infection Control Isolation/Palliative Care Suite, which may be converted for multi-purpose use, such as a homecare setting for palliative care and counselling skills development (see photo below)
  • A second eight bed Health Assessment lab (see photo below)
  • Three additional faculty offices

As well, this expansion includes facilities for inter-professional collaborations and research opportunities with other health care related professionals, faculties and the community, and is home to the new Graduate Diploma Program in Advanced Practice Oncology/Palliative Care.

The University of Windsor received funds to construct these expanded facilities; however, the Faculty of Nursing was responsible for equipping and outfitting the new Clinical Learning Centre. With the generosity of many donors, the facility has obtained the initial equipment and furniture needed.

Any further donations will be used to continue to purchase and upgrade state-of-the-art equipment to provide quality education and skills training for our nursing students. You can help to further nursing education by making a tax deductible donation today.
