The School of Creative Arts | Music at the University of Windsor fosters an atmosphere of close cooperation between faculty and students, creating a unifying atmosphere of excellence to encourage lifelong learning, teaching, research and discovery. Its basic characteristics of openness, warmth and support make this university an exceptionally welcoming community for students and faculty.
Students in the School of Creative Arts | Music have a unique opportunity to explore a diversity of music – from classical to jazz, hip hop, world music, electronic and electroacoustic. These diverse kinds of music are infused in all areas of study and then some – performance, ensembles, theory and history.
Students also have the opportunity to pursue advanced applied musical study outside of the western classical tradition -- contemporary music-making -- including popular kinds of music, electronic, and music drawing upon diverse cultural traditions. Students have the opportunity to develop composition and performance skills that reflect the diversity and richness of these practices, to challenge themselves to be creative and reflective musicians, and to prepare themselves for a career in the rapidly evolving music industry.
Music graduates have gone on to careers as professional musicians in orchestras, opera companies and Broadway shows, music therapists, music educators at all levels, arts administrators, and arts entrepreneurs. Others have been accepted to some of the finest music graduate schools in North America.
