Professor David Tanovich’s rap research was featured in a September 30 Los Angeles Times article entitled, "In Canada, prosecutors are using suspects' own rap lyrics to win convictions." The article cites Tanovich saying, ""Courts must … recognize the very real likelihood that rap lyrics will trigger racialized stereotypes when assessing the prejudicial effect of the evidence."

On 16-17 June, Dr. Anneke Smit participated as an invited speaker in the conference “Restitution of Land and Territorial Rights in the Context of the Transition to Peace” at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota.  Dr. Smit presented her research on the legal and social position of secondary occupiers of land and housing during processes of post-conflict land restitution.  She reflected on possible lessons for Colombia’s nascent restitution process. 

Professors Bahdi and Xavier publish in special issue of Third World Quarterly

This special issue of the Third World Quarterly grew out of the 2015 "Third World Approaches to International Law Conference" (Egypt) and two writing workshops (Ireland & Canada) that Professor Xavier co-organized. These events joined a global network of scholars and practitioners in international law from 33 countries interested in studying the complex and evolving relationships between the Global South & North.
