Robert Weir received his BA in Honours Classics from the University of British Columbia (1990) and an MA and PhD in Classical Archaeology from Princeton University (1993 and 1998). He has been on the faculty at the University of Windsor since 2002.
His general research interest is field archaeology, and he has spent part of most summers since 1986 on archaeological projects in the Mediterranean, usually in Greece. In recent summers, University of Windsor students have had the opportunity to travel and work alongside him for university credit at the Greek sites of Helike and Mytilene. More specifically, Weir is fascinated by ancient coins and what they can tell us about the past, and this interest is the basis for most of his publication projects.
When not teaching courses in archaeology, ancient languages, Greek civilization, or Greek history, Weir likes to relax with the music of George Dalaras, an antique book, or his 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on a starry night.
