Under Section 24(1) (a) of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the College will be giving preference to applicants who identify as being of Indigenous heritage (including First Nations, Metis or Inuit). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of Indigenous history, cultures, traditions and spirituality including an understanding of the historical and current relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canada. The incumbent understands and appreciates the importance of culturally appropriate protocols for Indigenous peoples.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Indigenous Student Success Coordinator nurtures a positive environment, cultivates connections, and provides support which is responsive to the needs of the growing Indigenous student population attending the University of Windsor.

This position provides a holistic model of student support that addresses academic, wellness, and cultural needs which fosters student connections - with individuals, supports and resources, and the community - and facilitates access to such resources, programs, and people internally and externally. It works to enhance the UWindsor experience of Indigenous student learners’ access, transition, retention and graduation and acts as a liaison between the University and Indigenous communities and organizations on behalf of students for the purposes of successful retention and career preparation of Indigenous students.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A citizen/member of an Indigenous Nation on Turtle Island (North America), have an Indigenous Nation and community that they have a relationship and responsibility to and have lived experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the Department
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous communities and networks as well as related Indigenous youth issues
  • Two (2) years experience in supporting Indigenous youth or related field
  • Demonstrated competency in the application of student development, mentoring and learning theory
  • Demonstrated knowledge and advocacy skills related to supporting Indigenous students in a postsecondary environment, and understanding of factors that impact Indigenous students’ access, transition, retention and graduation
  • Demonstrated experience in budget oversight
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of student outcomes assessment and program evaluation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to employ appropriate culture norms and communication styles
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for Indigenous ways of knowing and being, including an understanding of Indigenous people’s histories, cultures and experiences
  • Demonstrated understanding of political, social, educational goals and relationships with Indigenous communities (on-reserve, urban, etc.)
  • Demonstrated commitment in working to create an inclusive, equitable, and just environment to supporting diverse constituencies and population Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to travel on occasion
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree

HOURS OF WORK:              

Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm


 

Rate of Pay: 
Classification "VII" per Schedule A of the Collective Agreement
