At the University of Windsor, there are numerous opportunities for these international experiences. You will want to explore the options available to see what will work best for you.
See the list below of what options are available and who to contact for more information.
The University of Windsor has developed a broad range of student exchange partnerships with other universities and post-secondary institutions around the world. Currently, we have a variety of programs in a variety of countries, involving many different partner institutions, including every continent except Antarctica. Students who participate in one of these exchanges invariably report that it is the single most valuable part of their university experience.
Normally, students go on exchange for one or two semesters after completion of four or more semesters of study at the University of Windsor. No tuition is charged by the partner institution, as students continue to pay their University of Windsor tuition while they are away. Some financial assistance is also available. All course credits obtained on exchange may be applied to the University of Windsor degree requirements as appropriate.

Many professors at the University of Windsor have developed faculty-led study abroad programs. Past students have taken science and human kinetics courses in Costa Rica, business courses in Brazil, forensic science courses in Scotland, and political science courses in Belgium to name a few. Normally, these courses are one to two weeks in length and students obtain a credit equivalent to a full semester course. Course tuition is the same as other University of Windsor courses, with additional program fees assessed to cover other costs.
For more information on faculty-led programs you can talk to individual instructors.
Most working abroad experiences are facilitated through the co-operative education program. Accredited by Co-operative Education and Work Integrated Learning Canada, the University of Windsor’s co-op and internship programs provide students with the opportunity to explore potential career paths, make industry connections, and acquire skills and knowledge needed to succeed outside the classroom.
Students can work with their co-op advisors to find international work placements that fit their interests or seek opportunities with the University of Windsor’s established international partners.

The types of opportunities for conducting research abroad are quite varied and will depend on what your research interests are. The research conducted could be with a supervisor from the University of Windsor, in partnership with an international institution, as part of a field school or special program, or as an individual endeavor. To learn more about what opportunities are available in your area of interest you should reach out to faculty members in your department for their recommendations. You can also research what opportunities international institutions are offering, such as the EuroScholars program and what type of scholarship opportunities are available, such as the Mitacs Globalink Research Award.
Similar to semester exchange, summer programs are hosted by international institutions to offer course options on a much shorter time frame. Many of these programs focus on language and cultural immersion for the destination country, but there are also program specific options as well. The University of Windsor has many international partner institutions and when they have summer programs available we post them on the Go Global website. It is also recommended that you do your own research to see what programs are available that interest you educationally and geographically.
Similar to research abroad, there are numerous opportunities to volunteer abroad that vary greatly depending on what you are interested in. You will want to research what is available through community organizations, campus clubs, and international programs. Your faculty members may also be able to recommend different opportunities.
