DailyNews to incorporate facilities notices

Facility Services has a new way to notify the campus about interruptions in service to campus buildings.

DailyNews will publish its announcements automatically alongside its news columns.

“This new system will allow facilities staff to issue updates by the minute,” says editor Kevin Johnson. “The department is responsible for the content of its messages and can change any notice to reflect the most current information.”

The facilities announcements are available for syndication across all UWindsor Web sites using the Drupal content management system.

New signage to highlight campus improvements

Bearing the message “Here We Grow—another UWindsor improvement is underway,” new signs installed across campus will alert passersby to construction works, says Susan Mark, executive director of Facility Services.

“We have a number of projects on the go, from the temporary parking lot on the former Cody Hall site to the redesign of the Student Centre Courtyard,” Mark says. “We wanted a way to alert the University community that while the loss of access may pose a temporary inconvenience, it will soon result in tangible benefits for us all.”

DailyNews relocates job postings

Job postings from Human Resources have a new home in DailyNews, the UWindsor e-newsletter. Rather than appearing at the bottom of each edition's story list, all current postings will publish in the right-hand column.

“Under this new system, any posting will continue to appear until its closing date,” says DailyNews editor Kevin Johnson. “Previously, they would publish just the one day and then disappear. We anticipate the longer shelf life will be appreciated by readers.”

Silver stars: View magazine traces UWindsor Olympic connection

The London Olympics are just around the corner. Did you know that UWindsor alumni were part of the only Canadian basketball team to ever win a medal at the Games? Or that Lancer track athlete Melissa Bishop (BHK 2010, B.Ed 2011) will compete for Team Canada in London?

Read about them in “Silver Stars,” the cover story in the summer edition of View magazine, published by the Office of Public Affairs and Communications.

Image library ready for checkout

Members of the UWindsor community looking for images to use on their Web sites and publications have a new resource available to them: a searchable database of photographs depicting campus life.

“It’s still very much in development, but we’re ready for people to start checking it out,” says Rob Aitkens, a graphic designer in public affairs who manages the Image Library. “It is being continually updated as we work through our photo archives.”

University’s app launch well-received

The myUWindsor app will definitely make student life easier, says Ronnie Haidar, but it may make faculty life more difficult.

“I feel sorry for professors because students are going to be playing with this in class,” the fourth-year business student said. “It’s so cool; there’s so much to explore.”

Haidar introduced the mobile app, which provides a wide array of campus information to students with iPhone, BlackBerry and Android smart devices, at a launch event Thursday to open Campus Technology Day 2012.

UWindsor provides new level of student service by launching mobile app

The University of Windsor is bringing student service to a new level with a mobile app to help students do everything from check their grades to find a place to eat on campus – all in the palm of their hands.

Compatible with iPhone, BlackBerry and Android technology, the myUWindsor app provides mobile access to all the web-based services and information students would typically access on the University’s home page, through the student portal and the Collaboration and Learning Environment Windsor (CLEW) learning management system.

May 24 reception to celebrate flowering of campus giving

In donating to the Annual Giving Program, UWindsor employees and retirees do more than support the specific causes most dear to them, says campaign chair Bruce Tucker. This year, they have made a concrete impact on campus beautification.

A reception May 24 to recognize participating donors will also mark the formal dedication of a garden bed that spells out the university’s appreciation.
