How skilled are Windsor’s women basketball players? Lancers account for half of the Canadian university athletes playing with the nation’s senior national B team in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Miah-Marie Langlois, Korissa Williams and Tessa Kreiger join three of their Canadian Interuniversity Sport competitors and six Canadians playing in the NCAA on the squad.

Registration now open for Campus Technology Day 2012

With a theme of “Opening Doors with Technology,” Campus Technology Day 2012 will include interactive sessions and poster presentations discussing the impact of technology in enhancing learning, teaching, research, and building community, May 17 in the CAW Student Centre.

Senate approves more stringent qualifications for President’s Honour Roll

Making it onto the President’s Honour Roll became a little more of an honour as Senate approved toughening the criteria at its meeting April 13.

Under the new policy, the honour will be restricted to students in first-entry undergraduate programs who have completed a minimum of 10 courses with a cumulative grade-point average of 12.0 or higher.

Event to celebrate graduation of med school charter class

Windsor Regional Hospital will open a week-long celebration of the first class to graduate from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s Windsor program with Rock the Grad on Tuesday, April 17.

The event will feature a barbecue buffet hosted by gourmet butcher Ted Farron and the Penalty Box restaurant as well as the music of the local group, Is there a Band in the House.

Registration now open for LearnIT computer workshops

Registration begins today -- Monday, April 16 -- for LearnIT workshops offered in Intersession/Summer 2012.

The program offers a wide variety of free workshops for students, faculty and staff in levels ranging from beginner to advanced in Office Productivity, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Windows 7, SPSS statistical software, and computer security.

All participants will receive a certificate of completion, a handout for the session and a lucky raffle winner in each workshop will take home a Quick Resource Guide or a promotional coffee mug.

Catering crew to show community how campus cooks

Drew Verdam is looking for the Wow! factor.

The University’s executive chef, he will lead a team from Food Services in the Battle of the Hors D’oeuvres, April 26 at the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts – and he’s in it to win.

“I want people to know that we do high-quality work here,” says Verdam. “It’s a big local event that allows us to get our name out in the community.”

Author offers spiritual healing for survivors of sexual abuse

The trauma of sexual abuse causes a host of painful effects in the lives of survivors, often continuing for years beyond the incidents of abuse. Lack of attention to their spiritual needs may cause further suffering, says Stevan Wlusek.

The author of From Darkness into Transforming Light: Illumination for the healing journey of sexual abuse survivors from the Carmelite spiritual tradition, he will discuss his book at a launch reception Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m. in Assumption University’s Freed-Orman Centre.

Changes in store this summer for campus food outlets

Food Services will offer more choices to students, faculty and staff on campus this summer, says department head Dave McEwen.

The Marketplace food court in the CAW Student Centre will operate all summer long and, beginning April 23, will feature a new Second Cup coffee program. This self-serve station will offer soups and pastries in addition to a range of hot beverages.
