University Bookstore to host fair for technology vendors Wednesday

The University Bookstore invites students, staff and faculty to meet representatives from its two leading suppliers, Apple Canada and Win-Leader, during Technology Vendor Fair, on Wednesday, November 23.

Vendors will display a wide range of new technology products and answer consumer questions from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. in the bookstore.

Lecture to explore control of infection in hospitals

A brown bag lunch session on Monday will provide a forum to explore the practice and research literature with regard to common infection control issues at hospital and acute care settings.

Nursing professor Maher El-Masri will discuss the findings and clinical recommendations of research pertaining to hand hygiene and healthcare associated infections.

Part-time students to hold potluck lunch

The Organization of Part-time University Students will hold a potluck lunch party to celebrate the approaching end of the semester on Wednesday, November 23.

Exhibition to validate formula of “Learn, Reflect, Empower”

A ceremony Friday, November 18, at 1 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre Commons will mark the opening of an exhibition promoting transition to sustainable ways of living.

The Seeds of Hope exhibition “Visions of Sustainability, Steps toward Change” will remain on display until November 22. It consists of 24 panels giving examples of eight individuals and groups who have successfully taken action for change, and includes one left blank with a simple tree design so viewers can attach their own statements of what they will do toward sustainability.

Access ramp to Chrysler Hall Tower to close November 18 to 20

Repair work will close the accessibility ramp from Sunset Avenue to Chrysler Hall Tower from November 18 to 20, weather permitting.

The construction is a continuation of the work currently being completed on the building’s pedestrian deck.

Movie an adaptation of comic strip on grad student experiences

The Graduate Student Society will host a free public screening of the film Piled Higher and Deeper: the Movie, Thursday, November 17, at 8 p.m. in room 102, Toldo Health Education Centre.

The film is a live-action adaptation of the online PhD Comics by Jorge Cham. The strip explores the culture of academe through the stories of four graduate students struggling to find balance between research, teaching and their personal lives.

Campus mourns retiree death

Campus flags will be lowered Wednesday in memory of retiree Alan Johns, who died November 8. He joined the University of Windsor in 1985 as a technologist in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, a position he held until his retirement in 2002.

Researchers offer look at political arguments

What kinds of arguments do politicians use? A group of UWindsor researchers will share the findings of their study on Thursday, November 17, at 4 p.m. in room 105, Memorial Hall.

Philosophy professors Hans V. Hansen and Douglas Walton, and students Sam Atkin, Dillon Fowler, Laura Nicola and Shane Perron will report on their study of this fall’s Ontario election in a free public presentation, “How Do You Argue? Let Us Count the Ways.”
