Projects of the UWindsor chapter of Enactus took top honours in every category at the student organization’s Central Canada regional competition.

A free public event Thursday will showcase participants in “Changing the Odds: Community Transformation through the Arts.”
A program aimed at local youths is a safe environment where participants can express themselves, explore their hopes and beliefs, and nurture their creativity, says a UWindsor student helping to lead its daily sessions on campus.
Changing the Odds: Community Transformation through the Arts provides vulnerable youth with six weeks of training in theatre and related skills, but it’s about more than the arts, says senior drama leader Ashley Baez Abreu.
Graduating from the UWindsor drama program, combined with her professional experiences since, has given Meaghen Quinn (BFA Acting 2001) an ability to connect with prospective students—and their parents.
Now an instructor in the School of Dramatic Art, she loves being able to work with her colleagues and mentors to recruit new students.
“I had a positive experience when I was a student,” she says. “It's a privilege to be teaching here and in a position that allows me to promote the School of Dramatic Art.”
An interdisciplinary arts program recently wrapped up a summer camp designed to provide individual attention and support to youth in challenging circumstances aged 14 to 17.
Participants in the Changing the Odds program will make a public presentation drawing on their experiences on Friday, August 15.
