Four Lancers will take to the field this weekend for the biggest annual showcase of Canadian university football talent.
Quarterback Austin Kennedy, defensive back Matt McGarva, defensive lineman Garrit Post and receiver Evan Pszczonak will play for the West in the 10th annual Canadian Interuniversity Sport East-West Bowl, Saturday in London.
Canadian Interuniversity Sport named three Lancer players among its football all-stars Thursday – receiver Jordan Brescacin, defensive tackle Seamus Postuma and defensive halfback Matt McGarva.
Brescacin finished the regular season with 773 yards on 50 pass completions and seven touchdowns; he was named a first team all-Canadian. Fourth-year player Postuma had 16 tackles and two sacks to make the first team; McGarva’s 48 total tackles and one touchdown tabbed him for a second-team spot.
Ontario University Athletics named six Lancer football players to its all-star team Wednesday.
First-team all-stars are Jordan Brescacin at the position of inside receiver, Seamus Postuma at defensive tackle, Matt McGarva at defensive half, and Shea Pierre at cornerback. On the second all-star team are quarterback Austin Kennedy and wide receiver Cory Fernandes.
The Lancer football team is back in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport top 10 after earning a 4-1 start to the season. The squad is looking to go 5-1 – its best start in 25 years – with a win Saturday, October 8, at home over the Queen’s Gaels.
