Marketplace menu this week offering a tour around the world

In anticipation of Thursday’s Celebration of Nations, the CAW Student Centre Marketplace will this week feature foods from many lands.

This week’s multicultural menu is served at the Homestyle station, lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 7 p.m.

Monday, February 10, promises a Mexican lunch tortilla station, with diner’s choice of la carne, el pollo, el pescado, los frijoles refritos, el arroz, pico de gallo, guacamole. Dinner hails from Brazil, with a choice of feijoda, misto quente, or charuscaria.

Tuesday, February 11, will see Indian street food for lunch: beef korma, tandoori chicken roll, aloo tikki chaat, spicy aloo roll wrap or samosas, with cucumber raita and choice of chutneys. Chinese dishes for dinner include General Tso’s chicken, beef and broccoli with oyster sauce, vegetable chow mein with Cantonese fried noodles, and miso soup.

Wednesday, February 12, offers Nigerian specialties for both lunch and dinner, including fried chicken, Nigerian beef stew, fried plantains and yams with dipping sauce, Nigerian red kidney bean stew and fried rice.

Thursday, February 13, takes us to the middle east for lunch, with chicken shawarma, beef kabobs, meat or spinach pies, and a sampler platter of baba ghanoush, hummous, stuffed grape leaves and olives served with pita bread. Dinner will feature the street foods of Italy, including fried cheese ravioli with spicy arrabiata sauce; sausage panini with peppers, onions and rapini; pollo con zucca and gorgonzola; or braciole with gravy.
