Robert Gordon addressing 2022 Welcoming CelebrationWelcoming Celebration, Sept. 6 in the Toldo Lancer Centre, is like a pep rally for first-year students following their program orientation sessions.

Faculty and staff invited to extend welcome to new students

Mark your calendars for the Welcoming Celebration, Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Toldo Lancer Centre.

The orientation event will gather incoming students for reception into the University community.

Shetina M. Jones, associate vice-president, student experience, especially invited staff and faculty to attend.

“We're excited to welcome our students to campus with the support and help of our faculty and staff. With the assistance of faculty and staff we reinforce to our students why UWindsor is an engaged and connected campus community,” Dr. Jones says. “Please join in the excitement. I encourage you to invite fellow colleagues to participate, too. I can't wait to see you there!”

She notes that it falls on the first UWindsor Wednesday of the fall semester: “so put on your Lancer gear and bring your UWindsor spirit!” Jones has something very special for the employee demonstrating the most school spirit.

Highlights of the festivities include a travelling photo booth, student prize draws, and a few inspiring words of welcome from senior administrators, who will also announce the winners of the Battle of the Faculties competition for participation in UWindsor Welcome Week activities.

Committee seeking nominations for appointment as Distinguished University Professor

The Special Appointments Committee of the University Senate invites nominations and applications for the title of Distinguished University Professor.

Intended to recognize faculty at the rank of professor who have distinguished achievements in teaching and an international reputation for scholarship or creative or professional accomplishment, the title has been conferred on 44 individuals since its inception in 1986.

Applications for eligible candidates must be submitted to Senate governance officer Danny Anger in the University Secretariat by Nov. 30. Criteria and process can be found here.

The title “professor emeritus” is now granted automatically. Those faculty or librarians who did not receive automatic emeritus status on retirement because they did not meet the minimum required years of continuous service but do fulfill the other criteria may submit an application to the Special Appointments Committee for consideration.

For additional information, email Danny Anger at angerd1@uwindsor.ca.

Campus cookbook volume 2Organizers are seeking recipes for the second edition of the Campus Community Cookbook.

Deadline nears for recipe submissions

Thursday, Aug. 24, is the deadline to submit a recipe to the second edition of the Campus Community Cookbook, a fundraiser to support activities on Orange Shirt Day.

“The cookbook did really well last year,” says Alicia Charlebois, student engagement assistant in the Turtle Island Aboriginal Education Centre and a member of the UWindsor Orange Shirt Day planning committee. “We had originally only ordered 75 copies, which sold out within the first few days from launch, and did an additional print run.”

The organizing committee has set a target of 50 recipes for this edition and is just over halfway there. Submissions do not have to be Indigenous dishes but are intended to showcase the cultural diversity of the campus community.

To send in your recipe, fill in the submission form here.
