Campus libraries open longer to accommodate exam study

UWindsor libraries are extending their hours of operation to accommodate end-of-semester study.

The Leddy Library will remain open around the clock from 10 a.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Saturday, then re-open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday. These extra-long hours will end at midnight Monday, April 24, and will not involve the library’s full services. It will operate as a study hall from 2:30 to 7:30 a.m.

The Leddy Library will open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday during the spring recess, April 25 to May 7. It will begin its summer hours of operation on Monday, May 8. Check the details on the Leddy website.

The Paul Martin Law Library has extended its weekend hours and will operate Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 11:50 p.m. through April 22. Its hours Monday to Thursday remain 8:30 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. Find more information on the website of the law library.

Shell game: Bookstore sponsoring egg-decorating contest Tuesday

The Campus Bookstore is looking for a few good eggs. It is offering a $100 UWindsor gift card for the best-coloured egg on campus. Judging of entries will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the CAW Student Centre Commons.

“Colour your egg using any medium: paint, dye, marker, glitter — whatever your imagination can conceive,” says marketing co-ordinator Martin Deck. “Our judges will pick their favourite.”

The store will even provide eggs and colouring supplies Tuesday, so everyone can give the tradition a try. The activity will run in conjunction with a Sidewalk Sale, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Commons area, offering markdowns on apparel and tech.

In addition, patrons will enjoy a 10 per cent discount on all general reading books, including those already on sale.

“We’re hoping to clear our inventory in advance of fiscal year-end,” Deck says.

The contest and the sale are open to all comers.

Students, staff and faculty can host UWindsor’s Snapchat account for a day

Are you a member of a club with an event you want to cover live? Are you a student on exchange who would like to share your experience? Do you want to share a typical day in the life of a UWindsor student? Are you a faculty member who would like to share exciting new research?

Show your story on Snapchat, the image messaging app. The University is now lending out its Snapchat account to members of the UWindsor community for a day.

To apply, Snapchatters must provide details regarding when and how they would like to use the channel. Students must also obtain a recommendation from a faculty member detailing why they are good representatives of the University.

MBA program administrator to address meeting of part-time students

Ryan Donally, program administrator for the Odette MBA, will deliver a keynote presentation during the annual general meeting of the Organization of Part-time University Students at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 5.

The meeting is an opportunity for members to speak with directors and staff about the organization’s activities over the past year — and over the year to come.

Discussion to explore care of refugees

Having left their native countries due to violence and persecution, many refugees now call Windsor home.

Sister Helen Petrimoulx, retired refugee specialist for the Roman Catholic diocese of London, will lead a discussion with volunteers who have helped resettle many newcomers to the area in a free public event Monday, April 3, entitled “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Speakers will share their experiences providing care to refugees, and consider how to join these new neighbours in building a better community for all.

The event is part of Assumption University’s Christian Culture Series and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County, 6038 Empress Street.

Youth mentorship centre seeking auction sponsors

A support group for youth in downtown Windsor is seeking donations for a silent auction at its first-ever benefit dinner, April 27 at the Caboto Club.

Youth Embracing Today’s Youth provides afterschool and summer programming geared to health, arts and education.

UwinCARD office to extend hours during examination period

The UwinCARD office will operate longer hours over the next week — including Saturday — to better serve students requiring official identification to write final exams.

The extended hours are 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 8, 10, 11 and 12. The office, located in room B07 on the lower level of the CAW Student Centre, will return to its regular hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.

The two short-listed candidates for executive director of Information Technology Services outlined their visions of its priorities, challenges, and opportunities last week, and the search committee to fill the position invite comment from the campus community.
