A seminar Monday will give future health care professionals tools to improve their communication skills—and with them, outcomes for patients.
Debbie Rickeard, experiential learning specialist in the Faculty of Nursing, will present “Health Literacy and its Impact on Health and Patient Safety,” 1 p.m. September 28 in room 203, Toldo Health Education Centre.
She will:
- Explain the impact of health literacy on patient safety
- Define literacy and health literacy terms
- Identify factors that affect understanding
- Describe methods to improve health communication
The one-hour event, part of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement open school, offers certificates of attendance and door prizes. Registration is free online.
