Strategy to ensure equity in research training

The federal government’s Canada Research Coordinating Committee has released a research training strategy that will be introduced for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council over the next five years.

The Tri-Agency Research Training Strategy will help ensure the agencies’ suite of scholarships are equitable, inclusive, accessible, and effective, said Sylvie Lamoureux, SSHRC’s vice-president, research.

“It will help support and prepare a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers for careers requiring strong research skills in all sectors of society.”

The strategy is not set in stone. Lamoureux said; as the strategy is implemented, the funding agencies will engage with partners and communities to collaborate on specific actions.
