Black Scholars Institute partners in film festival

The Black Scholars Institute has partnered with organizers of the Windsor International Black Film Festival, which will hold its inaugural screenings at the SoCA Armouries Aug. 16 to 18.

“As a leader in and hub for Black thought and expression, the Black Scholars Institute is honoured to partner with the Windsor International Black Film Festival to call our lenses, stories, and artistry in from the margins and feature them as mainstream — and indeed vital — not only to Windsor, but on national and global scales,” says the institute’s director, Camisha Sibblis.

With a mission of celebrating and promoting Black films and filmmakers, festival organizers hope to provide a platform to showcase their art, create meaningful dialogue about issues and stories often overlooked in the mainstream media, and foster collaboration between the community and industry professionals.

Members of the campus and local communities are invited to a press conference on the festival at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4, in the institute’s offices on the lower level of the CAW Student Centre.
