UWindsor alumni to take centre stage during evening of music and arts

Graduates of UWindsor programs in music and visual arts will exhibit their talents during Winter Celebration, Saturday, January 16, at the Capitol Theatre.

The Artcite gallery will host works by alumni of the School of Creative Arts. Titled “NINE,” the show will open at 7 p.m. Saturday, will run through February 27, and features art by:

The musical side will be represented by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, with guest soloists drawn from the ranks of music grads—and one current student. The program will include arias from best-loved operas by Mozart, Verdi and Rossini; a tango by the master Astor Piazzolla; the Scherzo from Beethoven’s third symphony; and magical concerti for guitar and marimba and orchestra.

The featured soloists are:

  • soprano Erin Armstrong (BMus 2007)
  • mezzo-soprano Amelia Daigle (BMus 2012)
  • saxophonist Marc Funkenhauser (BMus 2010)
  • marimbist Greg Samek (BMus 2006)
  • guitarist Daniel Turner, a third-year BMus student
