Workshop to demonstrate handmade microphones

Ever wonder how a microphone works or why one sounds the way that it does? The members of the Acoustic Zoo have been wondering too.

The student club arranged to buy do-it-yourself kits to build ribbon mics and met last weekend with soldering irons in hand to assemble them. In a free public event Friday, March 13, they will get together to share their experiences and record some tests with the resulting devices.

The demonstration will feature side-by-side comparisons with other microphones to provide firsthand evidence of the unique qualities that distinguish a ribbon mic. It all begins at 3:30 p.m. in room 126, Music Building.
