Festival of Christmas to ring in holiday season

The University Singers will be sure to set a festive mood at the Festival of Christmas concert, Sunday, December 1, at Assumption Church.

Along with some well-known Christmas songs, such as “The Carol of the Bells” and “I Wonder as I Wander,” the program will feature a variety of works to set the audience in a holiday spirit.

Joining the singers will be eight brass instruments and percussion in a rousing performance of John Rutter’s “Gloria,” a work centered on the familiar phrase “Gloria in excelsis Deo.” The faculty and student brass ensemble will also be used in three familiar carols to be sung by the audience and choirs alike: O Come All Ye Faithful, The First Noel, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

The Chamber Choir will present a wide variety of holiday songs, from Armenian chant and early English polyphony to Brahms and Sarah McLachlan. More information, including program notes and a list of performers, is available on the concert website.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. Admission is $10, with a discounted student rate of $5. Order tickets online or by phone at 519-253-30000, ext. 4212.
