Lecture to delve into sports journalism

How do media narratives concerning athletes and athletics intersect with broader cultural discourses about gender, race and ethnicity, disability and nationalism?

Toni Bruce, a former sports journalist now teaching at the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Education, will address this question in her free public lecture “The Thinking Person’s Guide to Sports Media,” on the UWindsor campus Friday.

Bruce, president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport, has spent the past 20 years researching the production, content and audience engagement with sports media in the US, Australia and New Zealand.

Her lecture, part of the Human Kinetics Speakers Series, begins at noon October 25, in room 145, HK Building.
