Lecture to promote policies to prevent youth obesity

The Faculty of Human Kinetics Speakers’ Series presents a free public lecture by Russell Pate entitled “Policies for Promotion of Physical Activity and Prevention of Obesity in Youth,” at noon Friday, October 18, in room 145, Human Kinetics Building.

Dr. Pate, an exercise physiologist, is a professor in the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. His research on children’s fitness and the health implications of physical activity has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Heart Association, and several private foundations and corporations.

He coordinated the effort that led to the development of the recommendation on Physical Activity and Public Health of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine, and currently chairs the coordinating committee for the National Physical Activity Plan.
