The UWindsor Board of Governors approved a $5 million project to close Sunset and Fanchette streets at its meeting Tuesday, June 24.
The implementation of stage one of the Campus Master Plan includes:
- Creation of a cul-de-sac on Sunset Avenue at the north end of Chrysler Hall, accommodating areas for both turnaround and drop-off;
- Closure of Fanchette Street to vehicular traffic west of California Avenue;
- Removal of asphalt surfaces from parking lots K, W and L and their replacement with clean gravel—landscaping for these areas is envisioned in the next stage of work;
- Removing sidewalks along Sunset Avenue south of Fanchette and replacing them with green space and seating areas.
The University has issued a request for proposals and hopes to award a contract for the construction work soon, with an aim of completing the project by the end of 2014.
